Patients Recommend Strax Plastic Surgery

Many patients come to the Lauderhill, Florida based surgery center on the recommendation of friends and family, enabling our success and continued growth.

“With so many plastic surgeons out there, it’s harder than ever for patients to decide who to choose. We have been fortunate; our team of surgeons, MD Anesthesiologists registered nurses and physician’s assistants make our center to the one to choose. “We have seen tremendous growth through word of mouth referrals,” he added. “The future looks very bright.”

In better economic times, many people in search of youth and a beautiful body thought nothing of plunking down thousands of dollars for plastic surgery. These days, plastic surgery is on sale.

The decline in surgical procedures is not surprising to many plastic surgeons as they are aware of a shrinking disposable income within their demographic market. A Miami surgeon was quoted in the Los Angeles Times as stating “I have had to cut the price of a tummy tuck from $8,000 to $6,000 and saline breast augmentation from $5,500 to $3,800.”

Does reducing the cost of a plastic surgery procedure imply that you will not receive the same care? Absolutely not! Plastic surgeons are reducing their prices to compete, they are in business to offer plastic surgery and simply cannot afford not to market their services and become more “price competitive”. Larger plastic surgery centers leverage their buying power for surgical instruments, supplies, etc. so they actually can offer better pricing making plastic surgery available to a more diverse demographic. Al Auer of Strax Rejuvenation says “we have made plastic surgery available to a much larger demographic, it is not just for the wealthy anymore. We can offer better pricing than the smaller centers and/or single doctor offices without sacrificing quality.”

People still want to look better they’re just trying to do it for Less. Before you decide where to go to have your procedures for less ask your surgeon how many procedures they perform weekly and how experienced they are with your particular procedure. Go with the busy and experienced and board certified surgeon.

Strax Tackles Obesity with Lap-Band®

Ft. Lauderdale, FL – Former Miami Dolphin All-Pro, Keith Sims, is teaming up with the nation’s largest plastic surgery center to reach out and tackle obesity through safe, effective and successful Lap-Band® surgery. Keith believes as a community we can all give support and should help other people dealing with the issue of obesity.

Having lost more than 75 lbs. as the result of a Strax Rejuvenation Lap-Band® procedure, “Strax saved my life,” said the slimed down Sims.  “I’ve lost several former Miami Dolphins teammates to complications linked to obesity and I was headed down the same path.”

Keith has such a passion to help people; he is now available to meet with patients during pre-op and post-op consultations. Keith is also adding a digital element to the Strax web presence by sharing his journey on Facebook and through other social networks. The “Journey” offers advice and allows other Lap-Band® surgery patients to connect with Keith, Strax Doctors and both current and former patients. This is a major stride in the industry as very few surgery centers work with their patients after the surgery on what to do next. Having performed more than 800 Lap-Band® procedures safely and effectively at its Lauderhill-based facility, Strax wants to reach out and offer a way to discuss aftercare and share experiences. Additionally Keith will be sharing facts on all the surgeries that are offered at Strax.

The Goal is to provide the best experience possible for every person that visits Strax, either in person or via web. Therefore in addition to working with Lap-Band® patients Strax will open social network channels later this month to include Facebook, twitter, YouTube, Blogs and live chats”. We want our clients to have a rich 24-hour a day line of communication.

(CBS) “You’re fat, and you need to lose weight.” Doctors who talk to their obese patients about their weight stand to boost their earnings, if England enacts a new plan proposed by its health insurance agency.

Under a plan introduced by the country’s National Health Service, general practitioners would receive a bonus for advising obese patients to lose weight or for enrolling them in a weight-loss program, The Daily Telegraphreported. The plan is part of an NHS campaign to stop skyrocketing rate of obesity. The idea is that by by paying doctors to encourage their fat patients to lose weight now, England can avoid paying later for expensive weight-reduction surgery or to treat health problems arising from obesity.

A recent study estimated that illness caused by obesity and poor diet is costing the NHS more than six billion pounds a year, according to the Telegraph. Experts predict more than half of British adults and a quarter of children will be obese by 2040.

But the proposal has its critics.

“I am in favor of GPs referring more patients to weight management schemes…where there is good evidence they work…” Tam Fry, spokesperson for the National Obesity Forum, told the Telegraph. “But I think it’s appalling that GPs need to be paid extra to do this – and even worse that they can get the same reward just from telling a patient to lose some weight.”

U.S. government organizations back campaigns like the CDC’s “Healthy Weight” campaign, and the White House’s “Let’s Move” initiative, but what about a plan like this in the U.S.?

Dr. Ken Fujioka, director of the center for weight management at the Scripps Clinic in La Jolla, Calif., thinks a plan like this would be a step in the right direction. “In the U.S. doctors are told by insurance companies that they will not reimburse for ‘obesity’ thus there is incentive to not put obesity as a code to get paid,” he told CBS News in an email. “If there was incentive to identify obesity, it would be the first step toward attacking a very serious problem.”

At Strax Rejuvenation and Aesthetics Institute, patient care and safety is our top priority. Because we’ve successfully performed over 30,000 procedures since 2004, we’ve gained a deep level of experience with the potential risks and complications associated with plastic surgery – and how to minimize them.

In 2003, The American Association of Nurse Anesthetists estimated that anesthesia-related deaths occur one in every 200,000 to 300,000 cases, but acknowledged that patients, doctors and nurses alike continue to question safety tactics as they determine their anesthesia providers.

As Americans become more self-medicated, often requesting written approval from their primary care physicians, it becomes increasingly more important to relay all pharmaceutical information to your plastic surgeon during your initial consultation. This should include prescription drugs, topical treatments or even herbal, over-the-counter supplements that you’re taking to help you with weight loss, vitamin deficiency or other health and wellness issues.

Henry Rosenberg, M.D., Professor of Anesthesiology at Thomas Jefferson University, explained in a white paper that the use and understanding of anesthetic drugs has grown tremendously, but conceded that “not everything is known or predictable about how a patient will respond to these potentially toxic agents.”

Divulging other necessary information like previous injuries, conditions and even other surgeries can only further aid your cause when considering a plastic surgery procedure, but the easiest way to ensure your safety is to list all medications you ingest on your medical consent forms that can be used as a reference point in an emergency situation.

Most problems that may arise during a plastic surgery procedure are the result of the plastic surgery, not the sedation, which is why the number of anesthesia-related deaths is still very low in comparison. That said, there are very serious complications that can occur if a patient has a reaction to the anesthesia drugs.

Jennifer Heisler, RN explains that the most common issues associated with anesthesia are related to intubation – inserting the breathing tube.

“Aspiration, or breathing food or fluid into the lungs, can be a problem, during surgery. Some patients also experience an increased heart rate or elevated blood pressure during the process,” she writes.

Heisler warns that malignant hyperthermia, a reaction to anesthesia that causes a patient’s temperature to rise rapidly, can be a life-threatening issue. Those who’ve had similar complications in the past, and are still considering an optional plastic surgery, may want to think twice or discuss the issue with their surgeon and anesthesia provider.

When push comes to shove, those who fully disclose any pertinent health-related information can lessen potential risks involved in plastic surgery. You may even go so far as to have your plastic surgeon discuss your medical history with your primary care physician so your surgeon can take every precaution necessary to reduce the risks of complications or side effects.

At Strax Rejuvenation and Aesthetics Institute, patient care and safety is our top priority and understanding the benefits and risks of plastic surgery is key. While an increasing number of people consider the benefits of plastic surgery, many ignore the potential risks which can lead to complications or in the worst case – even death. An estimated 13.1 million people underwent plastic surgery procedures in the United States in 2010 according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). As the number continues to soar, some Americans, in their quest for the perfect body, have become less discerning when opting to pursue plastic surgery.

As plastic surgery becomes more widely and vividly displayed on reality television shows and through educational online content, potential patients have used this source of entertainment as a decision-making tool. In a relevant case study conducted in 2005, surgeons attempted to uncover the influences on patients’ decisions to undergo plastic surgery.

“The desire for change was the most direct motivator to undergo plastic surgery. Improvements to physical well-being were related to emotional and social benefits. When prompted about risks, participants mentioned physical, emotional and social risks.”

Participants in this study were said to have given “considerable weight” to a pre-surgical consultation and felt that their safety was contingent upon finding the “right” plastic surgeon for their operation.

Strax recommends you ask questions about your plastic surgery!

Every type of surgery involves at least some risk. Plastic surgery is inevitably a very personal choice. Be sure to examine all facets of a procedure and explore the potential risks. Find a plastic surgeon you feel comfortable with to ask as many questions as you need. The most common questions to ask during your plastic surgery consultation are:

  1. What type of plastic surgery do you recommend for my situation?
  2. What experience does the surgeon have performing this type of plastic surgery?
  3. What are the potential side effects and risks associated with this plastic surgery?
  4. What is the typical recovery process?
  5. In the event of a complication with this plastic surgery, what steps will be taken?

Obtaining clear answers to these questions can help put your mind at ease and make a more educated decision about which plastic surgery procedure, clinic and surgeon is right for you.

Be sure to disclose your complete medical history (including other plastic surgeries) to the plastic surgeon along with all medications you’re taking. Many plastic surgery related side effects and deaths could have been prevented and have resulted from patients not disclosing all of their medical history.
